Databricks IPO: Is 2027 the Date? Valuation & Status
Databricks is private at a $190B valuation with a $7B+ revenue run-rate and no IPO filing. Here's why its CEO is waiting and what would signal a listing.

Databricks has not filed for an IPO, and 2027 is the earliest realistic date. The data and AI company raised $5 billion at a $190 billion valuation in August 2026, reports a revenue run-rate above $7 billion growing more than 80% a year, and has positive free cash flow, so it has no pressing need for public capital. CEO Ali Ghodsi has said 2026 is a poor year to list and that Databricks is unlikely to go before the large AI labs.
Databricks is not listed on OpenStocks as of October 2026. Below are the numbers, the timing logic, how its valuation has moved, and the signals that would show an IPO is getting close.
As of October 2026: based on Databricks' press release of 13 August 2026, CNBC (9 February 2026), Morningstar/Dow Jones reporting on Ghodsi's IPO comments (September 2026) and SEC EDGAR searches.
Is Databricks going public?
Eventually, almost certainly. Databricks has been an IPO candidate since 2021 and has built the finance, governance and reporting functions of a public company. But it has filed nothing with the SEC, confidentially or publicly, and has kept raising large private rounds instead.
Ghodsi's stated reasoning in 2026 has been about market conditions, not readiness. He has said this year is not a good time to go public, suggested Databricks would rather not list ahead of Anthropic and OpenAI, whose offerings could absorb a lot of investor demand for AI, and pointed to 2027 as the earliest window. Anthropic's confidential filing in June 2026 makes the sequencing question concrete; see Anthropic IPO: filing, timeline and pre-IPO exposure.

Databricks valuation history
Round | Timing | Valuation |
|---|---|---|
Series J ($10B raised) | December 2024 | $62 billion |
Series K | September 2025 | Over $100 billion |
Series L | Announced December 2025, completed February 2026 | $134 billion |
Strategic round ($5B) | 13 August 2026 | $190 billion |
That's roughly a tripling in under two years. The August 2026 round was led by Coatue with Blackstone, MGX, T. Rowe Price and new investor Sixth Street Growth, alongside other new names including BOND, Clearlake, Point72, Premji Invest and TPG. Sovereign investors are well represented: MGX took part in the August round, and Singapore's GIC and Temasek are among Databricks' existing backers.
Repeated large rounds at rising prices are typical of how the biggest private companies now operate; late-stage pre-IPO rounds and how pre-IPO funding rounds work explain the mechanics, including preference terms that make headline valuations hard to compare with public market caps.
What's driving the valuation?
Growth at scale
A $7 billion-plus run-rate growing faster than 80% is unusual for a company of this size. Databricks attributes much of it to AI workloads: companies building agents and AI applications need governed data, and Databricks sells the platform that stores, processes and serves it.
New product lines
The company said its data warehousing product had passed a $1.5 billion run-rate and that Lakebase, its newer operational database, had passed $100 million. Its Genie and Unity AI Gateway products were also highlighted in the August update.
Profitability
Positive adjusted free cash flow means Databricks can fund growth without new capital. The large rounds have partly funded employee liquidity and acquisitions rather than operations.
When will Databricks IPO? Scenarios
2027, after the AI labs. The base case if Anthropic, and possibly OpenAI, list first and the market absorbs them well. Databricks would then file into a market that has re-priced AI infrastructure.
Later than 2027. If private capital stays this abundant, Databricks can keep raising at rising prices and run tender offers, as Stripe does (Stripe IPO date).
Earlier than expected. Unlikely given the CEO's comments, but a sharp change in market conditions or a large acquisition paid for in stock could change the calculus.
Signals to track
A confidential draft registration statement announcement (often a one-line press release).
Bank mandates reported by Bloomberg, Reuters or the FT.
New CFO or board appointments with public-company experience.
How Anthropic's IPO prices and trades after listing.
Any further private round: a price above $190 billion would suggest private markets are still the better venue.

Databricks vs other 2027 IPO candidates
Databricks is one of several heavyweight private companies pointing to 2027 or later. Canva's COO says the company is IPO-ready and expects to list in 2027 (Canva IPO). Revolut says 2028 at the earliest (Revolut IPO and share price). The broader pipeline is mapped in pre-IPO companies 2026.
Databricks vs Snowflake: the public comparable
When Databricks files, investors will benchmark it against Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW), which listed in September 2020 in one of the largest software IPOs at the time. The two compete directly in data warehousing and AI data platforms. Databricks' pitch is that it grew from data engineering and machine learning into warehousing, while Snowflake grew the other way. Its reported growth rate of more than 80% on a $7 billion-plus run-rate would compare favourably with most listed software companies, which is one reason private investors have been willing to pay $190 billion.
Acquisitions that shape the story
Databricks has used its private capital to buy capabilities: MosaicML for generative AI model training in 2023, Tabular (the company founded by the creators of Apache Iceberg) in 2024, and serverless Postgres provider Neon in 2025, which underpins Lakebase. These deals would be explained in detail in an S-1, along with any goodwill and stock-based compensation they created.
Databricks IPO: notes for investors outside the US
Databricks is one of the most searched pre-IPO names outside the US, and sovereign funds such as GIC, Temasek and MGX already hold stakes. For individuals in markets such as Hong Kong, the UAE, the UK and the EU, the practical points are:
Before the IPO, private secondaries are generally limited to professional or accredited investors under local rules, with high minimums and company transfer approval.
After a US listing, local brokers that offer US stocks would give access, subject to US withholding tax rules on any future dividends.
Databricks is not listed on OpenStocks. OpenStocks' current four names are available only to eligible users outside the US and other prohibited jurisdictions, with economic price exposure only. Eligibility depends on your jurisdiction; check the Terms.
A final point on timing: if Databricks lists in the US, its trading hours fall in the evening or overnight for investors in Hong Kong and the UAE, and in the afternoon and evening in the UK and EU. Many investors use limit orders rather than market orders in the volatile first days after an IPO, when prices can swing widely from the offer price.
