SpaceX After the IPO: SPCX Stock and Pre-IPO Holders

SpaceX listed in June 2026 as SPCX, so pre-IPO access no longer applies. What happened to SPV, secondary and xAI holders, and how to avoid fake SpaceX tokens.

As of October 2026. Updated to reflect SpaceX's June 2026 IPO.

SpaceX is public: pre-IPO access no longer applies

SpaceX is no longer a private company. Space Exploration Technologies Corp. priced its initial public offering at $135.00 per Class A share and began trading on 12 June 2026 on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas under the ticker SPCX, according to SpaceX's own pricing announcement. The offering covered 555,555,555 Class A shares and raised about $75 billion, the largest IPO on record. On its first day SPCX opened at $150 and closed at $160.95.

That means "SpaceX pre-IPO access" is no longer a meaningful search. Anyone who wants SpaceX exposure today is looking at a listed stock, not an SPV allocation. OpenStocks does not offer SpaceX exposure and is not affiliated with SpaceX. The live OpenStocks desk lists Anthropic, Figure AI, Anduril, and Neuralink only.

What happened to xAI

SpaceX acquired xAI, the maker of the Grok chatbot and owner of X, in an all-stock merger. The merger agreement was dated 31 January 2026 and the deal closed on 2 February 2026, before the IPO. So exposure to xAI now sits inside SPCX rather than in a separate private company. Anyone pitching "xAI pre-IPO shares" after that date deserves extra scrutiny.

What happened to pre-IPO holders

  • Employees and early shareholders now hold listed stock, but IPO lock-up agreements typically restrict sales for a period after listing. The exact terms are in SpaceX's IPO prospectus and each holder's own agreements.

  • SPV and fund investors own interests in a vehicle, not SPCX shares directly. What happens next depends on the vehicle's documents: some distribute shares to members after lock-up, others sell and distribute cash. Ask the manager for the plan in writing. Background: how SPVs work vs OpenStocks.

  • Secondary buyers who bought before the listing generally hold the same class as their seller, subject to the same restrictions (how the pre-IPO secondary market works).

  • Former xAI holders received SpaceX stock in the merger, so their position followed SpaceX into the IPO.

How to get SpaceX exposure now

SPCX trades on Nasdaq, so the normal route is a regulated broker that offers US-listed stocks in your country. There is no need for an SPV, a pre-IPO fund, or a Prime-style vehicle to get listed SpaceX shares, and any pitch that says otherwise after June 2026 is a red flag. OpenStocks is not a route to SpaceX exposure.

Scam patterns that are still live

  • Anonymous tokens branded "SpaceX stock" or "pre-IPO SpaceX"

  • SPV pitches that still promise "pre-IPO pricing" on a company that is already listed

  • "xAI shares" offered as if xAI were still a separate private company

  • Telegram bots promising IPO-tied airdrops and screenshots of fake brokerage fills

  • Claims that buying Anduril exposure (oAND) equals SpaceX ownership—different companies

Anduril is a defense-tech theme on OpenStocks (Anduril product); it is not SpaceX.

Lessons for other pre-IPO names

SpaceX shows how quickly a famous private company can move from "pre-IPO" to a listed ticker. Once a company files and lists, pre-IPO structures lose their purpose and listed shares become the simplest route. If you are tracking names that are still private, see the Anthropic IPO filing tracker, the Neuralink IPO date guide, and our primer on what pre-IPO means.

For eligible users outside the US and other prohibited jurisdictions, OpenStocks offers economic exposure to its listed private-company themes—not equity. Start with what is OpenStocks, what is listed, and risks. Eligibility depends on your jurisdiction; see the Terms. Related listed themes: Anthropic, Figure AI, Neuralink.

Key takeaways

  • SpaceX listed on 12 June 2026 as SPCX at a $135 IPO price.

  • xAI was absorbed into SpaceX on 2 February 2026, so xAI exposure is now part of SPCX.

  • Pre-IPO routes (SPVs, secondaries, pre-IPO funds) no longer make sense for new SpaceX exposure.

  • OpenStocks does not list SpaceX and is not affiliated with SpaceX.

FAQ

Is SpaceX still pre-IPO?
No. SpaceX completed its IPO and began trading on Nasdaq on 12 June 2026 under the ticker SPCX.

Can I get SpaceX exposure on OpenStocks?
No. OpenStocks does not offer SpaceX exposure. Its live desk lists Anthropic, Figure AI, Anduril, and Neuralink, and its tokens are economic exposure only, never shares.

Can I still buy xAI stock?
Not as a separate private company. xAI merged into SpaceX in February 2026, so its business is part of SPCX.

Are SpaceX SPVs still worth it?
For new money, an SPV that holds a listed stock adds fees and restrictions without adding access. Use counsel and regulated channels.

US person workaround for OpenStocks?
No. OpenStocks is not available to US persons or persons in the United States.
